What are these things?
Mei Tai, Podegi, and Onbuhimo carriers are all varieties of Asian-style traditional baby carriers. These carriers are alternates
to baby "slings" or "wraps", with many of the same physical and social advantages for the baby, but with greater
ease of use and comfort for the parent.
Most babies love the cuddly closeness of being carried, while parents appreciate the comfort of a carrier that
distributes weight evenly across both shoulders and (more or less depending on style) the waist.
Carrying baby on your front or back while keeping your arms free while you walk, shop, work provides many
advantages to parents and children, including:
- Provide essential, calming contact with your newborn while getting things done around the house.
- Pack a carrier in your diaper bag for wearing your tired toddler.
- Quickly & easily maneuver through cramped spaces like department store aisles or crowds.
- Stop waiting for the elevator -- take the stairs or escalator!
- Put your child up nearer to eye level with most adults where she can feel involved.
- Unlike commercial products which allow baby's legs to dangle, these carriers support your baby's legs, back, and spine.
- Most can be tied several ways, so you can select a carry that works best for you.
- Most carries distributes your child's weight to your waist, as well as the shoulders, for extra comfort.
- Select stylish colors and fabrics to create a unique carrier all your own!
- Wear newborns through toddlers -- lose your pregnancy pounds quicker by carrying a "baby weight".
